Scholarships for students in their senior year of high school

January is a time of new beginnings, new year’s resolutions, and new scholarship opportunities.
And while there are thousands upon thousands of scholarships out there, only a small pool of them accept applications from high school students. Totally counterintuitive, I know!
Which is why I put together this list of January scholarships for high school seniors. My hope is that this curated list saves you time during your quest to find money to pay for college.

Eligibility: Any high school senior graduating in 2023 who plays on a school baseball team is eligible to apply.
Submit: 400 – 600 word essay.

Eligibility: Must be a U.S. Citizen who is a high school senior, high school graduate, or current college undergraduate student. High school seniors and graduates must plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accrediated two-year or four-year institution in the United States.

National “Don’t Wait to reach Your Potential” Scholarship
Ron Brown Scholar Program

Eligibility: Applicants must be Black/African American, a current high school senior at the time of your application, and a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.
Submit: Online application and 2 essays, no longer than 500 words each.
William A. March Education Trust Scholarship

Eligibility: Must be a high school senior, graduate, current undergraduate, or current graduate student. High school seniors and graduates must plan to enroll in a two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
Submit: Online application and current transcripts.
American Water Inclusion and Diversity Scholarship

Eligibility: Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates, or current college undergraduates, have a 3.0 GPA or higher, and be planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study, pursuing a certificate or degree in a non-medical STEM or business-related field.
In addition, applicants must self-identify as a member of one of the specified underrepresented groups and reside and/or attend college is one of the 24 specified U.S. states.
Submit: Online application, current transcripts, and most recent filed form 1040.

Eligibility: Open to all legal U.S. residents ages 16-26 who are pursuing higher education.
Submit: A 2-minute video on what you’re passionate about and how you plan to make a difference. It could be a short film, animation, or a simple testimonial.
Dr. Meme Heineman Scholarship

Eligibility: Must be a high school senior, college freshman, college sophomore, or college junior planning to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student in the fall of 2023. In addition, must be a dependent of a full- or part-time hourly associate of The Home Depot and its subsidiaries, The Home Depot Canada, or The Home Depot Mexico at the time of application.

Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to graduating high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.3 who are planning to major in computer science or engineering degrees at a 4-year college, or a 2-year college with an intent to transfer to a 4-year college.

PBWC Academic Scholarship

Eligibility: Applicants must be a California resident, identify as female, and be a current high school senior.
Submit: Online application, 500 word personal essay, and 3 letters of reference (two academic and one non-academic).
Technology Addiction Awareness Scholarship

Eligibility: Must be a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior or a current or entering college or graduate school student of any level. Homeschooled students are eligible to apply. There is no age limit. Must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
Submit: 140-character statement about technology addiction. Finalists will be asked to write a full length 500 – 1,000 word essay.
Chevron Dinah Shore Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to female high school seniors who demonstrate a passion for women’s golf but will not be plating collegiate golf. Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and plan on attending an accredited college or university in the United States.

Eligibility: Must be 13+ and a legal resident of the 50 U.S. or D.C.

Marilynn Smith Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to female high school seniors who have played golf in high school or in her community and is planning to play golf at an accredited college or university in the United States.

Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to female high school seniors from a recognized minority background who will be pursuing a full-time course of study and playing collegiate golf at an accredited college or university in the United States.

Eligibility: Open to U.S. residents who are at least 16 years old. Must be a high school senior who will be or a college student who is enrolled at least half-time in a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree program or graduate program at an eligible school within one (1) year of winner notification/confirmation.

Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation Scholars Program

Eligibility: Be a U.S. citizen, plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students must be graduating from a high school in Ventura County, California.
Submit: Online application, transcripts, two recommendations, and a video response to an essay question.

Eligibility: Must be enrolled in an American or Canadian post-secondary educational institution, or planning to enroll in such an institution within the following calendar year.
Submit: Online application and a 500 words or less essay (written in English or French) in response to the prompt.
eQuality Scholarships

Eligibility: Open to California residents who have demonstrated service to the LGBT+ community. Applicants of all sexual orientations and gender identities are eligible. Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors, community college transfer students, and medical students.
Submit: An online application.

Filling out applications can be tedious, but just know that you’ll have a better chance of winning if you keep on applying. Fingers crossed some of these scholarships turn out to be winners for you!
