Summer is almost here and it’s time to start thinking about your future. As the last day of school is fast approaching, so too are deadlines for college scholarships.
One of the most important things graduating high school seniors who are planning on attending college should do this summer is to apply for scholarships. Scholarships can help you pay for college and reduce the amount of student loans you’ll need to take out.
While there are still many deadlines coming up in July, August, and September — June is an ideal time to apply for scholarships. Because the closer you are to starting college, the busier your life becomes!

SmartAsset High School SmartStart Personal Finance Scholarship

Eligibility: Any high school senior who has a 3.0 GPA or higher, is planning to attend college, and is interested in continuing their financial education may apply for this scholarship.
Submit: 700 – 1000 word essay on the best piece of financial advice you have received and how do you plan to utilize that advice throughout your college career and beyond.
Trees for Tuition Scholarship Fund

Eligibility: Any high school senior or undergraduate student in Georgia may apply for this scholarship, but students in Atlanta are preferred.
Submit: 400 – 600 word essay.
Gordon Hay Scholarship

|
Eligibility: Open to current high school senior, college freshman, or college sophomore. Must have plans to pursue a non-performing career in theater, a record of scholarly achievement, and demonstrate artistic or technical accomplishment.
Submit: Completed application form, 1-2 page personal essay, 2 letters of recommendation, proof of acceptance/enrollment, SAR, and a headshot.
“Be Bold” No-Essay Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to students at any education level. Students at any education level, school, and field of study will be considered. No GPA requirement.
Submit: No essay. The scholarship will be awarded to the student whose profile is most bold.
JASNA Essay Contest

Eligibility: Open to students world-wide in 3 divisions: high school, college, and graduate school.
Submit: 6 – 8 page essay on the current essay topic (Jane Austen related). The essay must use MLA format, including a Works Cited page and parenthetical citations in the body of the text.
Learner Education Women in Mathematics Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to women. Must be a current high school senior who plans to study mathematics or related fields or an undergraduate currently studying in these fields.
Submit: 400 – 600 word essay on what draws you to math and how certain principles in math have shaped your understanding of the world around you.
Alice and Gary Barthell Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to high school juniors and seniors. Applicants must be junior ROTC cadets passionate about receiving an college education while simultaneously training for their future service in the U.S. armed services.
Submit: 400 – 600 word essay on why you want to serve the USA.
Desire to Inspire Scholarship

Eligibility: Must be a high school junior or senior in the fall; interested in pursuing a career in healthcare; Black/African-American, Native American, Latinx-American; and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Submit: Online application and 500 word essay.
Stuck at Prom Scholarship

Eligibility: Must be enrolled in a high school or home school association at the high-school level during the 2022-2024 school year. Excludes Colorado, Maryland, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Vermont.

Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest

Eligibility: This is an international Contest and is open to students ages 11-18 who are enrolled in middle school or high school (or the homeschool equivalent) worldwide.
Submit: Your original work (art, creative writing, film, website, music, dance, or poetry) in response to the prompt.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship

Eligibility: The scholarship is open to all students who have had challenges with mental health or who have had loved ones who have struggled with mental health.
Submit: 200 – 1000 word essay on how your experience with mental health shaped your goals, relationships, and understanding of the world.
Headbang for Science Scholarship

Eligibility: Any high school senior, four-year undergraduate student, or graduate student who is pursuing a degree in healthcare or physical sciences may apply if they love Heavy Metal music. Applicants must have 3.0 GPAs or higher, but students with higher GPAs are preferred.
Submit: Answer the five questions below in 666 words or less.
Isaac Yunhu Lee Memorial Arts Scholarship

Eligibility: Low-income students in their junior and senior years of high school or in undergraduate school are eligible to apply if they are planning to attend or are currently attending art school.
Submit: 400 – 600 word essay about a favorite piece of art you’ve created and what inspired its creation.
ConnectHer Film Festival Scholarships

|
Eligibility: Filmmakers must be 13 to 25 years old at the submission date. That means that scripts, storyboards, directing, cinematography, editing, etc., must be done by people who meet this age requirement. Actors can be any age. Any gender student may submit a film.
Submit: 3 – 5 minute original film on one of the topics listed here.
Dr. Rajesh Aggarwal Scholarship for Scientific Studies

Eligibility: Any low-income high school junior or senior in Massachusetts or New Jersey with a 3.0 GPA or higher and a passion for science may apply for this scholarship.
Submit: 400 – 600 word essay.
Innovation in Education Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to any high school or college student within the U.S. or Canada with a cumulative GPA of 3.0+.
Submit: Online application, letter of recommendation, self-photo, and an essay describing the goal of the particular project and provide supporting documentation (no min or max word/page count).
Angel Wings Thai Scholarship

|
Eligibility: Open to students of Thai ancestry. Must be a graduating high school senior; entering an accredited college or university for the 2023-2024 school year; and have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or better.
Submit: Completed application, transcript, 2 letters of recommendation, 500 – 1000 word essay, College Acceptance and ID Card Number.
Black Skeptics Los Angeles Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to graduating high school seniors who live in the U.S. and identify as atheist, agnostic, humanist and/or secular, and are accepted into two or four-year colleges. Preference is given to Black/African American, Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Native American students, as well as BIPOC youth whose families have been economically and personally impacted by COVID-19.

Wrapping up with high school senior scholarships to apply for in June
The end of the school year is a time of mixed feelings, and especially so for high school seniors. The excitement to start summer vacations is palpable, but also the sadness of saying goodbye to friends and teachers.
However, the end of this life chapter is also a time for celebration. For example, seniors who are graduating this year will be getting scholarships that they can use in college starting in the fall — and hopefully one of those seniors will be you!
